Web Design Overview

This 2 day course is a comprehensive overview of the technical, visual and information design methodologies that are part of the creation of a coherent Web presence. The class studies specific case studies of successful (and less-than-successful) Web sites, with an emphasis on visual, structural and informational design.

This seminar looks and analyzes Web sites in terms of design and communication factors such as layout, typography, color, style, visual hierarchy, navigation, programming technology and organization. Issues involved in technology -- optimum graphics formats, tricks for image compression, the realities of high-bandwidth data delivery -- and other technical concerns are examined. Issues relating to Performance, Compatibility, Usability, Branding, Community, and E-Commerce will be examined.

This class will be of interest to anyone who is or will be involved in the planning or design of Web sites, and it is an appropriate complement to other, more technical Web site development classes. No technical background is necessary for this class and no design experience is required, but those involved in technical fields or print-based design will find the class particularly useful.

Web Design: Using Adobe GoLive

This hands-on course focuses on Adobe GoLive the WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get ) web editor. The visual design tools in GoLive allow pixel level page layout control and the flexible source code editor helps write, edit, and check HTML. The easy-to-use Dynamic HTML, cascading style sheets, QuickTime editing, ready-to-use JavaScript actions, and advanced site-management capabilities make this a preferred web design tool. Optimizing web graphics using Photoshop and ImageReady will be demonstrated.

The class is appropriate for web designers, graphic designers and others interested in creating state of the art web sites. This course covers GoLive's basic and advanced features including:
  • site organization and structure
  • site creation, maintenance and management
  • working with images
  • working with tables
